The Sechs-Seen-Platte (Six Lakes ) in Duisburg is a well-known recreational area made up of six interconnected lakes: Wambachsee, Masurensee, Böllertsee, Wolfssee, Wildförstersee, and Haubachsee. This scenic water landscape has become a hotspot for stand-up paddling (SUP), offering ideal conditions for both beginners and advanced paddlers.

A key figure in promoting SUP in this region is Haiko Dehnen, a dedicated advocate and organizer of SUP tours in Duisburg. His passion for water sports and deep knowledge of the area have helped shape the Sechs-Seen-Platte into a popular destination for paddleboarding enthusiasts. While several SUP stations operate in the area, two have stood out in recent years. One of the original and well-known locations was Aloha SUP, operated by Heike and Roger te Poel-Theyssen since 2012. They offered rentals and a variety of SUP courses at Masurensee until their station was dismantled in March 2024. Plans are underway to reopen Aloha SUP in 2025 at a new location on Wambachsee.

Another option is Lani SUP, located at the Wolfssee public swimming area. They offer board rentals, beginner courses, race training, and even SUP yoga. Access is through the Freibad (public pool), and a general entrance fee applies.

For paddlers who bring their own boards, several convenient launch spots are available, especially around Masurensee where small sandy beaches provide easy access to the water. However, parking can be limited during peak season, particularly along Masurenallee. Visitors are also reminded to respect environmental regulations, especially protected zones along the shores and islands.

Thanks to local pioneers like Haiko Dehnen, the Sechs-Seen-Platte remains one of the most versatile and welcoming SUP destinations in the Ruhr area — whether you're looking to join an organized tour or simply explore the lakes on your own.
